90% of adults over the age of 65 want to stay in their home for as long as possible. However, challenges like housing costs, financial uncertainty and a lack of necessary services can make aging in place a difficult goal for many seniors. Aging in place becomes more viable when older adults have home improvements like handrails and ramps, and easy access to essential services and opportunities to engage with their communities. Factors like financial uncertainty, overwhelming home maintenance and expensive housing costs complicate that path. AARP is a great resource for Seniors, but also for their families and caregivers.

AARP works to help seniors, including low-income adults in need, combat the challenges of aging in place and helps them age comfortably in their homes and communities. One way is throough their Rent and Mortgage Assistance Resource Center | AARP Foundation provides free eviction and foreclosure resources for seniors in danger of losing their homes. AARP also encourages zoning changes that make neighborhoods more accessible and affordable for seniors.

The pandemic has shown the devastating impacts of social isolation and why it’s important that seniors have opportunities for human connection, especially from home.
