The Golden Rule

“The world tells us to seek success, power, and money; God tells us to seek humility, service and love.” ~Pope Francis

The Bible is the best-selling book of all time, and it may also be the best business self-help book available. Pope Francis may be pointing out conflicting interests, but if you exhibit humility, service and love in your business and work life, you are far more likely to achieve success, power, and money than someone who doesn’t.

Humility, if you help others succeed in business, you too will succeed. To quote Booker T. Washington: “If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else.” Help your subordinates succeed, help your colleagues succeed, help your boss succeed, and you too will succeed.

Service, provide the best service to your customers and treat your employees well and you will succeed. Your customers will reward your service with more business and your employees will work hard for you because you treat them well.

Love, not always associated with business, but it recalls the Golden Rule, treat others as you would like to be treated. Be humble and share credit for your successes and accept responsibility for your team’s failures. Provide excellent service to your customers and employees, and treat them like family, with love and respect.

Do these, and you will achieve success, power and money, and for all the right reasons.
