Most financial misdeeds have at their root one of two underlying motivations, greed or need. In some cases, both. Today’s Gospel from Luke (Chapter 16, Verses10-13) shows us how this does not end well. Financial misdeeds are often steeped in lies, and as we know, lies beget more lies and little lies become big lies. The truth always comes out in the end, so beginning, and staying, with the truth is the better path to take.
Luke Chapter 16: Verses 10-13
Jesus said to his disciples:
“The person who is trustworthy in very small matters
is also trustworthy in great ones;
and the person who is dishonest in very small matters
is also dishonest in great ones.
If, therefore, you are not trustworthy with dishonest wealth,
who will trust you with true wealth?
If you are not trustworthy with what belongs to another,
who will give you what is yours?
No servant can serve two masters.
He will either hate one and love the other,
or be devoted to one and despise the other.
You cannot serve both God and mammon.”
As Coach J (college football coach) often said; ‘take care of the little things, and the big things will take care of themselves.’
